Ordinarily, I´m one of those who believes that charity begins at home. By making sure I don´t starve or run short of money or any of the many luxuries that I´ve become accustomed to over the years. I like the Keep The Salami Happy Charity because of its simplicty, transparency and unambiguous agenda, but mostly because I get to reap all the benefits and throw away half-eat hotdogs in front of homeless people.
For once, however, I´m going to promote a different charitable event. On Sunday, 9 September 2007, a group of old friends, longtime Splattermail readers and 2007 New York Marathon runners are hosting an afternoon of pizza, live music and rugby (the opening South Africa v Samoa World Cup match) in a bid to raise money for the organisation Get Kids Going. Here´s the scoop:
When: Sunday 9th of September from 2:00pm, rugby starts at 4pm.
Where: Asoka son of Dharma, Kloof street, Cape Town
Who: Bernard Jordaan, Caro Fisher, Jeanine Cillie, Sue Koller and Dave Riches
Why: It’s for charity! R120 a ticket – proceeds straight to Get kids going!
The five of us have signed up to run the New York marathon this year in November. We have registered with a charity that ensures us an entry in the marathon, and in return for the entry we have pledged to raise R100 000.00 between the five of us.
Please join us for an afternoon/evening BUTLERS PIZZA, LIVE MUSIC, WORLD CUP RUGBY OPENER (BOKS vs SAMOA), vibe, fun and vibe!
There will also be some awesome prizes that will be raffled off through the course of the afternoon!!!
Tickets R120. Proceeds directly to the charity, Get Kids Going.
Cape Town´s favourite pie-slingers, Butler´s Pizza, have pledged 70 of the world´s best pizzas for the occasion, which is incentive enough in itself to get through early and set up shop next to the buffet table.
I know I won´t be going out on a limb by guaranteeing that the afternoon will be a blast, and I´m even more certain that I won´t be putting any additional pressure on the organisers by making such a guarantee. The shindig promises to be an absolute cracker and presents a perfect opportunity to put your excess dosh to good use whilst stuffing your face with pizza and beer, enjoying quality live music and watching South Africa beat the shit out of Samoa. Hell, I´m upset I won´t be able to make it myself.
For more information on purchasing tickets, contact the organisers at earnyourbreakfast@gmail.com…or just drop us a mail and we´ll put you in contact with them.
Go on…do the right thing.
